The smiles of the earth... Digging in the earth in the shape of a half-moon or ‘arc’ to transform dry land into fertile land...
The power of nature-based solutions is immense. Here is "Just Dig it" in Tanzania, a programme that deserves to be publicised https://buff.ly/2HDcGK7
The objective is simple.
Transforming dry land into fertile land.
How do we do that? By digging half-moons into the Earth.
It sounds too simple. And yet, in 8 years 380,000 hectares revegetated 14 million trees replanted 291 million people affected
The promoters of Just Dig It projects focus on where they can have the greatest impact: Africa. Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia. https://buff.ly/48G5fv6
The approach is to inspire and empower millions of subsistence farmers to green their land. The ripple effects benefit the soil, biodiversity and people around the world, and will help cool our planet.
This video shared by biologist and activist Dr Geetha Plackal speaks for itself.
It shows how an arid landscape in Arusha, Tanzania, changes over the course of a year.
✅️ The programme encourages farmers to dig bunds that naturally store rainwater. They called these half-moons the smiles of the Earth.
